Description

In the Pu-erh world, it is often said that “Banzhang is king, Yiwu is queen,” and the 2012 Da Bai Cai Banzhang Organic Raw Pu-erh fully reflects why Banzhang holds that title. Harvested from certified-organic old-tree gardens in the Banzhang region, this tea carries the unmistakable depth, structure, and authority that have made the area one of Yunnan’s most revered origins.

The tea opens with a rich honeyed aroma supported by elegant orchid notes rising from the warmed leaves. As the session unfolds, the fragrance deepens into darker and more layered tones, touching on forest wood, wild herbs, and a subtle hint of dried fruit. Even after the cup is emptied, the scent remains with a warm, lingering presence.

More than a decade of natural ageing has transformed the profile beautifully. The once-bright edges have mellowed into a rounded, harmonious body, and the aroma now carries gentle woody warmth alongside its floral sweetness. The liquor is thick, powerful, and steady, exhibiting the characteristic strength Banzhang teas are known for, yet it is immediately balanced by a deep, resonant sweetness that persists long after each sip.

It gives a calm, focused energy that is both grounding and invigorating. Each infusion reveals another layer of complexity, reflecting maturity and the purity of its high-altitude old-tree material.

Brewing Guide

Use 5-10g of tea and a 100-150ml gaiwan or small teapot.

Water temperature should be at ~95°C.

Rinse the leaves once before the first infusion.
5-10s for the first steep, a few seconds longer for each subsequent steep.

Storage

Pu-erh is alive and continues to evolve over time. Store your tea in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated space, away from direct sunlight and strong odours. Avoid sealed containers—Pu-erh benefits from gentle airflow. Over the years, its flavour will deepen and mature naturally, rewarding patience and proper care.
