Description

The 2020 Purple Bud Raw Pu-erh is a rare and distinguished expression of Yunnan’s ancient tea heritage. As noted in Lu Yu’s Classic of Tea, “among teas, purple is superior,” and this tea lives up to that legacy. Purple-bud Pu-erh is harvested from wild ancient tea trees growing at elevations above 2,000 metres in the forests of Yunnan. Because each tree produces very little, often only one picking per year, authentic purple-bud tea is highly scarce.

The dry leaves are dark, glossy, and textured, blending deep green with flashes of purple-red buds, a signature characteristic of this naturally occurring varietal. When brewed, the tea releases a clear, bright golden liquor, noticeably more luminous than typical raw Pu-erh. Purple-bud tea is unusually rich in anthocyanins, up to one hundred times more than regular green tea, as well as elevated levels of polyphenols, amino acids, and other natural nutrients.

Its fragrance is clean and elegant with a gentle floral sweetness. The flavour is smooth, lively, and refreshing, finishing with a soft cooling sensation that lingers comfortably. True to traditional craftsmanship, this tea retains the purity, brightness, and refined energy that define top-grade Pu-erh made from ancient trees.

A rare varietal with both character and wellness benefits, the 2020 Purple Bud Raw Pu-erh offers an invigorating and memorable cup for those seeking something exceptional.

Brewing Guide

Use 5-10g of tea and a 100-150ml gaiwan or small teapot.

Water temperature should be at ~95°C.

Rinse the leaves once before the first infusion.
5-10s for the first steep, a few seconds longer for each subsequent steep.

Storage

Pu-erh is alive and continues to evolve over time. Store your tea in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated space, away from direct sunlight and strong odours. Avoid sealed containers—Pu-erh benefits from gentle airflow. Over the years, its flavour will deepen and mature naturally, rewarding patience and proper care.
